What is Craniosacral Massage?

This massage includes gentle work and pressure applied to the bones of the scull, face and spine to help correct imbalances and areas where the bones are interrupting or slowing proper flow of the craniosacral fluid (CSF). The CSF goes around and between these specific bones to help maintain proper balance and wellness within the body itself.

When the proper flow of CSF is slowed or interrupted it causes issues like: ringing in the ears, depression, full-feeling head, balance issues, back pain, brain injury, central nervous system disorders, insomnia / chronic fatigue, colic, concussion, fibromyalgia, immune disorders, learning disabilities, migraines, neck pain, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), scoliosis, spinal cord injury, and stress.

How is Craniosacral Massage performed?

This is a massage that does not require you to dress down however it is recommended that you wear loose, comfortable clothing. For chronic issues regular weekly or biweekly appointments are recommended. Results can be seen and felt with the first treatment.

When proper flow of craniosacral fluid is slowed or interrupted in the head or face pressure can build and cause a migraine. When specific releases are done to help shift the bones, even a little, this can free the fluid and allow for the normal rhythm of the fluid to be restored alleviating the pain.

When the natural flow and rhythm of the craniosacral fluid is slowed or interrupted it can throw of our balance and coordination. Specific gentle releases and holds can free areas of restrictions around the ears, face, and head to encourage the return of balance and flow.

Around the area of concussion site or traumatic brain injury the brain can become somewhat compressed by the surrounding bones which can lead to further damage by not allowing proper and adequate fluid flow around the brain.  With specific gentle holds and releases the compression can be eased allowing for proper flow of craniosacral fluid allowing more space for healing to occur.

When everything in our body is moving as it should and in its own natural rhythm we are able to get better, more restful sleep. If the rhythm of our craniosacral fluid is unbalanced or impeded, our body is our body and mind is out of balance and sleep is disturbed.  Specific, gentle holds on the areas of compression help to restore this balance.

When areas of compression are found that are delaying or stopping the flow of craniosacral fluid, neither the body nor the mind are able to relax.  Our bodies enter a state where they are more easily affected by our thoughts. When the proper flow of craniosacral fluid is restored, the body is more able to function as it needs to and the brain is allowed to process thoughts more efficiently. 

Any disturbance of the body’s normal and natural rhythm is going to be affected in a negative way when there is stress and tension.  The more we can do to keep the natural flow going, the more we are able to better handle and deal with the stuff that comes up in our day to day lives.  If there are compressions slowing proper flow of craniosacral fluid this can only exacerbate the stress and tension felt on the body.
